The instruction is geared to meet the needs of two age groups. The first group are dancers aged nine (with experience) and older; and the second group named “Ta Mikra” are aged five to nine.
The returning volunteer Greek dance teachers are:
Group 1:
Kelli Koukourikos
Maria Harrington
Helen Schafer
Group 11:: “Ta Mikra”
Mina Leletzopoulos
Mariacristina Leone
The two dance groups' classes will be held every Monday night from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hellenic Center.
(A detailed class schedule will be provided during registration)
Our dancer were a smashing hit during the 2009 Greek Festival! Their authentic Greek costumes received many accolades; unfortunately we ae still raising money to pay for their wardrobe. Starting this year we are charging for dance instruction to help defray the costs involved for quality dance performances.
Please note: the dance instructors are providing their services for free! All monies raised goes back into the program to support the dancers.
The cost for dance instruction is $10.00 per month,which breaks down to $2.50 per session. Class fees are due the first Monday night of each month. The 2010 Greek Dance Calendar has 30 weeks of schedule instruction summing up the cost to $75.00 per childmaximum $150.00 per family.
Of course, during the festival preparation or other exhibitions (Poppy Festival, etc.) all scheduled additional dance sessions/rehearsalsbe at no additional charge. During performances dancers will only have to provide their own personal apparel-there will be no additional costs to using the Greek Dance Costumes.
Greek Dance is popular for many reasons: great exercise, enhancement of coordination, memory and social skils, performance experience...the list goes on.
